Chichen Itza is the world’s most famous Mayan pyramid. Tours leave every day from Playa del Carmen to one of the Seven Wonders of the World. You’ll have to get up early as most tours leave the resort area in the early morning. First, you’ll drive two and half hours to the ruins and have a few hours inside. After relaxing at the beach and exploring Chichen Itza, it is now time to head to one of Mexico’s islands.
You can find Isla Mujeres just off the coast of Cancun, which makes it a very convenient day trip. The island is known for its fantastic beaches, laid-back atmosphere and for being small enough that you can quickly get around in a golf cart.
Start your day at Playa Norte, one of the best beaches on Isla Mujeres. If you want to, you could easily spend the whole day here.

Merida is known for its colonial architecture and its many opportunities to experience the local culture.
The easiest way to get to Merida is by car. Buses take around four hours, and you can save a bit of time if you go by car. Plus, getting a rental car and going on a one-day Yucatan road trip offers you more flexibility.
In Merida, it’s best to start exploring the city at the Plaza Grande. Around this central square, you can already see lots of historic buildings. Plus, it’s a great place if you want to sit down and people watch for a while.
